Kylie Davey was 8 years old when she took her first Dance classes, in Hobart, Tasmania. Starting with Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Musical Theatre, then Contemporary, Funk and Hip Hop, Kylie was an enthusiastic and gifted young student. In her adolescence, Kylie established herself as a prolific and creative choreographer, a generous teacher and an outstanding performer; earning numerous trophies and titles, representing her studio, her school and her state (Tasmania and, later, Queensland) in countless competitions and eisteddfods. Kylie was awarded a Dance scholarship by Kings Christian College (Gold Coast, Queensland), where she completed her secondary education; and, she pursued solo Dance competitively and professionally until she was 21.
In 2008, Kylie discovered Modern Jive at Move Your Body – Gold Coast. Excited by both the social scene and competitive opportunities, Kylie devoted herself to the new Dance, found a Partner and advanced from ‘Beginner’ to ‘Champion’-level competitor within 2 years! During that time, Kylie taught frequently for Move Your Body and Le Step on the Coast, where she was introduced to West Coast Swing.
She was converted! – West Coast Swing became her new and lasting favourite Dance!
Kylie has since travelled extensively – internationally – to learn from and compete alongside some of the best West Coast Swing Dancers in the world. Renowned for her smooth-yet-funky style and fearless acrobatics, she is now recognised, herself, as one of Australasia’s finest West Coast Swing exponents; dancing, judging and teaching across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Kylie brings her extensive Dance training and technical understanding to her teaching… and delivers good content in a relaxed, down to earth, fun manner! Kylie leads by example to foster an outgoing, approachable, welcoming and supportive community, social scene and learning environment, where she hopes that new Dancers will find inspiration and learn to share her passion for West Coast Swing!
